Invention idea is just an idea until it's realized.
Meet the UP Dock - a charging station that once was just an idea. It was sparked out of the necessity to charge few micro-USB devices at once and keep the workspace organized.
In order to make it real, simple, and efficient our team built over fourteen prototypes. But, because creating a product is a work of science and art, it all started with sketching.
Creating 2D visual representations highlighted the Up Dock's general concept and the problems it would solve, like cord-free charging of several smart devices and minimal use of space.
Based on sketches, the device models were created using 3D CAD modeling technology.
PROTOTYPE
First rough prototypes provided our engineers with the ability to feel the product and see what further changes it required.
Testing physical models showed some design flaws in terms of weight distribution, lead time, and cost-effectiveness.
Our designers and engineers simplified the design to reduce the assembly time and manufacturing costs.
Each new prototype helped us to minimize expenses and make the device more efficient. Now it had sides and the bottom as one piece and the motherboard attached to the top cover.
Up Dock charging station has turned from just an idea into a fully functional product. It charges any type of micro-USB devices like styluses, remotes, and smart pens. You can also transmit and receive data while charging. Its minimalistic but stylish look will create a neat and organized environment at any office or home.
Further testing allowed for fine tuning the design. After all necessary modifications we built a pre-production prototype. More cost-effective iterations done during the Up Dock prototyping stage you'll find in our article
A $12,950 Mistake You Can Avoid When Choosing the Right Invention Prototyping Company.
The importance of prototyping can't be stressed enough, as it is a way to perfect your product and bring its best possible version to life.
If you are just getting started with your invention idea, let us help you navigate through the process. Starting with the discovery stage (setting a scope of work and defining the minimum features of your product), to concept design and modeling (creating a 3D model), to the destination of working on your prototype.
We will be your right technical hand from the idea till the product launch (or signing the licensing deal).
